Elimination Disorders

These are the disorders caused by physiological or psychological factors. The ability to maintain bowel and bladder control Develops gradually over time. It comprises Encopresis (inability to maintain bowel control) And Enuresis (inability to maintain bladder control).

We should not make these diagnoses until after age of 4 years (Encopresis) and 5 years (Enuresis).

ENCOPRESIS: DSM-5 Criteria for diagnosis of Encopresis:

1. Symptoms frequency should be one or more times a month for 3 or more months.
2. Voluntary Or unintentional elimination of feces in inappropriate places.
3. The symptoms should not develop before 4 years of age.
4. The symptoms should not be because of any Substance use or any other medical conditions.
5. In severe cases there can be constipation with overflow incontinence.

ENURESIS: DSM-5 Criteria for diagnosis of Enuresis:

1. Symptoms frequency Should be 2 or more times a week for 3 or more months.
2. Voluntary or unintentional voiding of urine either at daytime or nighttime at inappropriate places.
3. The symptoms should not develop before the age of 5 years of age.
4. The symptoms should not be because of Substance use or any other medical conditions.
5. It can either during daytime or during nighttime or both.
