Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder

A. Presence of Obsession, Compulsion or Both:
Obsession is defined as
1. Intrusive thoughts, urges, or images that accompany behavior that in most of the individuals causes significant anxiety or distress.
2. Individuals attempts to ignore or suppress such thoughts through some other thoughts or counteraction.
Compulsion is defined as
1. Repetitive behaviors (Example: washing, checking, arranging etc.) or mental acts (counting, praying, repeating words etc.) that the individual feels driven to perform in response to an obsession or according to rules that must be applied rigidly.
2. The repetitive behaviors are aimed at reducing anxiety or emotional distress or to prevent an imaginary dreaded event or situation and are excessive.
B. symptoms and behaviors consume at least 1hr/day or cause significant distress or socio-occupational impairment.
C. Symptoms should not be because of any substance or any other medical conditions.
D. Absence of any other psychiatric illnesses.
